What is Earth Day?

Let's start at the beginning.

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection and promote awareness of environmental issues.

It originated in the United States in back 1970k when Senator Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day as a way to raise awareness about environmental concerns and strike up public support for environmental protection efforts. Since then, Earth Day has grown into a global movement, with millions of people in over 190 countries participating in activities such as tree planting, environmental clean-ups and more.

Earth Day offers a reminder of the importance of protecting our planet and inspires individuals, communities and businesses to take action to address environmental challenges.

What is the theme for Earth Day in 2024?

Earth Day has a different theme each year, and 2024 is no different.

This year's theme is "Planet vs. Plastics", and aims to demand a 60% reduction in the product of all plastics by 2040.

There's an urgent need to address the global plastic pollution crisis and protect our planet from the harmful impacts of this.

From reducing single-use plastics to promoting plastic alternatives and recycling initiatives, Planet vs. Plastics is inspiring individuals and communities to take meaningful action to combat plastic pollution and protect our environment.

Why is Earth Day on April 22nd?

April 22nd is the anniversary of the modern environmental movement that began in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson of the United States.

The date itself was chosen in part because it fell between colleges' spring breaks and final exams.

It was also the date of Arbor Day, a date when individuals and groups were encourage to plant trees.

Since its roots in 1970, Earth Day has grown to become a symbol of global unity and action towards bettering ourselves for the planet, bringing together people from all walks of life to advocate for a healthier, more sustainable world.
