Back in 2012, the founders of Ecoffee Cup discovered that single-use cups weren't recyclable, despite misleading claims. This massive yet unpublicised problem spurred their determination to help. Each year, 300 billion single-use cups are produced, but less than 2% are recycled.
After two years of perfecting their design, they launched Ecoffee Cup in 2014 using an innovative new material. Initially, people liked their products but didn't grasp the importance of reuse. Not until 2016, when environmental awareness grew, did consumers and media finally recognize the appalling true cost of single-use items. The mindset had begun to shift.
Nearly a decade later, progress has been made in some ways. They've received notable media coverage, imitation, and even made Oprah’s 2019 Christmas list. However, their original goal remains unfulfilled.
COVID dealt a huge setback to the reuse movement as single-use industries aggressively lobbied governments, halting initiatives to curb single-use growth.
But every setback brings renewed resolve. Now is the time to build on these foundations, push forward, and catalyze real change. This evolution drove their business solutions for cafes and companies to replace single-use cups with practical, cost-effective, attractive alternatives, supported by Ecoffee Cup's consumer insights, logistics, inventory, and supply chain management.
Together through action, not just words, we can kick our single-use habits for good. Together, we must #choosetoreuse.
